St Ann's Quay, Newcastle

Client: City Lofts (St Ann's Quay) Ltd

St Ann’s Quay is a prestigious new mixed development overlooking the Tyne, in Newcastle. We undertook an initial noise survey to determine environmental noise levels and specified the building envelope to enable internal noise limits to be met. We also recommended criteria for internal sound insulation between flats and commercial areas and worked with the Architects to develop partitions and detailing to meet the criteria. Our role continued through the construction stage to inspect partitions and detailing and undertake sound insulation tests on sample walls and floors.

Great Western Royal Hotel, Paddington

Client: Ove Arup & Partners
The former Great Western Royal Hotel (now the Hilton London Paddington), at Paddington Station, has recently been fully refurbished to provide modern guest room and conference facilities, while retaining the historic fabric of the building. The refurbishment of the hotel coincided with the opening of the Heathrow Express, which has its London terminal within the basement. The initial studies related to the control of noise and vibration from the station construction works to the hotel. We subsequently provided advice on sound insulation and building services noise control throughout the hotel during the design, construction and commissioning of the refurbishment.

Loch Fyne Restaurants
We have provided advice on noise control for kitchen and restaurant building services to meet local authority planning requirements and to ensure satisfactory internal noise levels at many Loch Fyne restaurants throughout England. Often the restaurants are located in prestigious mixed commercial and residential developments and noise breakout from the restaurant and plant areas has to be carefully controlled to ensure that no noise nuisance will be created.

East Ham Town Hall

Built between 1901 and 1903, the East Ham (now Newham) Town Hall is an elaborate brick building, with many original interior features including the main hall and Council Chamber. Newham Council is proposing to refurbish the principal public rooms and we were commissioned to determine the existing acoustic characteristics and sound insulation and provide advice on improvements to these, within the constraints of the building's Grade II* listing.
