TECP installs long term, remote noise monitoring equipment (November 2008) |
|
|
The Kings
Cross Central development site in London continues to progress and as
part of the 15 year construction programme, The English Cogger Partnership
has installed two (soon to be three) permanent noise monitoring stations.
The sophisticated SPL Net equipment is fitted with 3g mobile internet
links enabling remote monitoring of construction noise at the site,
from almost anywhere at any time. The system provides continuous noise
level data, long term statistical levels and even real-time audio, with
simultaneous logging of wind data to assist in the analysis. The monitoring
of construction noise is being undertaken on behalf of developers Argent
to meet planning conditions for the site, imposed to protect nearby
residents. |

- 40 years on" on the 23 September 2003. The Wilson committee published
its report on "Noise" in 1963 when it was realised that it was

The current version of BS 4142, published in 1997, is applied to a very wide range of applications, not all which lie directly within the stated scope of the standard. The assessment methodology has also been criticised on numerous occasions. Following a number of reviews of BS 4142, the British Standards Committee responsible for developing standard decided to commission new guidelines for environmental noise management which would clarify the application of existing standards and regulations within the different areas in which environmental noise management normally takes place. It should be noted that this is to be an additional document to BS 4142 and is not intended to replace it. In June 2003, the committee appointed a team led by Ken Collins of RPS and comprising Ian Flindell, Nicole Porter and The English Cogger Partnership, to prepare a draft of the new guidelines for public consultation. The proposed work plan will enable the team to develop the guidelines through a series of drafts that respond to user feedback. The initial
draft is available. |
