Colin English is a Chartered Engineer and is the President of the Institute of Acoustics. For several years he chaired the Institute's Engineering Division and is on the membership Committee. He serves on the British Standards committees for noise and vibration control on construction sites (BS 5228) and Road traffic noise reduction devices (BS EN 1793 & 4). He is also a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He has worked as an acoustic consultant specialising in environmental noise for 30 years since graduating from Southampton University. Major projects include: widening of the M1, M6, M25 and M42; the Dublin Port Tunnel road scheme; infrastructure schemes include Kings Cross Central, the London International Freight Exchange and the Bangkok Elevated Road and Train System; power station design for plants in the UK, Croatia and Pakistan; building and architectural acoustics of the Palacio de Congresos, Granada and the Hôtel du Département des Bouches-du-Rhône, Marseille. Colin is regularly asked to give expert evidence at Public Inquiries, trials and tribunals. Colin is an authority on traffic noise mitigation and has conducted original research in this field. He is co-author of Environmental Noise Barriers (E&FN Spon, 1999). He regularly contributes papers and presentations at IOA and other conferences. email Colin
