Architectural and building acoustics

Control of external and internal noise, privacy and ensuring a suitable acoustic for speech and music are now recognised as important parameters in many building projects, whether commercial, industrial, leisure or residential. Measures to provide sound insulation and optimise the acoustics of spaces are most effectively undertaken at the design stage, or as part of a refurbishment programme.

Our work in architectural and building acoustics includes:

  • Acoustics and sound insulation in educational buildings and courts
  • Residential sound insulation
  • Control and mitigation of environmental noise affecting residential or commercial buildings
  • Speech privacy and acoustic design of commercial buildings
  • Noise control and acoustic design of leisure buildings (hotels, pubs, clubs and sports venues)
  • Application and implications of the Building Regulations 2000, Approved Document E 2003
